Competition Type: Individual, Short Answer Exam, Counts 1/3 towards the Individual Olympiad Championship
This is a required event for all competing students.
All students attending the 2022 International History Olympiad will be required to compete in the Written Exam, which will consist of a certain number of questions, and a timeframe allotted – these will both vary according to age division. The Written Exam will consist of 10 question prompts. Elementary Division students will need to answer any 4 of these; Middle School Division students will need to answer any 5 of these, Junior Varsity Division students will need to answer any 6 of these, and Varsity Division students will need to answer 7 of these.
The prompts will cover the following 10 regions, with one prompt per region.
2. Ancient Europe and the Middle East
3. Asia/Oceania (other)
4. Asia/Oceania (other, not same as above)
6. Europe from 476AD to 1815
7. Europe since 1815
9. Latin America and the Caribbean
10. North America (Canada and the USA)
One question Students are expected to write paragraph-length answers for all of these, except one of the student’s choice, which should be developed into a 5 paragraph essay. Varsity and Junior Varsity students will have 90 minutes to complete the Exam. Middle School students will have 80 minutes and Elementary students will have 75 minutes to complete the Exam.
