When: Day 4, Wed. July 18, 8:30am-6:30pm
On Day 4, Olympiad participants will have the opportunity to visit the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp and Memorial, located just outside Berlin. Considered a prototype for other camps, Sachsenhausen was used from the mid 1930’s through the end of World War II, and then by the Soviets during the early portions of the Cold War. Thousands entered and never left. Participants uncomfortable with visiting Sachsenhausen may participate in a series of other museum visits in Berlin instead, but for those who come, it will be a most meaningful day, and a chance to study the darkest chapter in German history on site.
