The 6th International History Olympiad was held from July 20-26 at École Jeannine Manuel in Paris, France. Organized by International Academic Competitions, the International History Olympiad is a biennial event featuring the world’s top history students ages 8-18.

Featuring 49 separate competitions as well as over 100 field trips, and over 30 medals ceremonies, the 2025 International History Olympiad was attended by 432 Competing Students, far surpassing the previous Olympiad record of 258. They competed for 61 separate affiliations, representing 24 independent countries, 34 US states, and three regions. Students competed in five separate age divisions: Varsity (grades 11-12 or international equivalent), Junior Varsity (grades 9-10 or equivalent), Middle School (grades 7-8 or equivalent), Intermediate (grades 5-6 or equivalent), and Elementary School (grades 2-4 or equivalent).
The overall champions of the 2025 International History Olympiad for each division were:
Varsity (66 competing students): Robert Wang, New Jersey
Junior Varsity (135 competing students): Luke Ng, Singapore
Middle School (126 competing students): Ishaan Patra, Japan
Intermediate (75 competing students): Han Lu, California
Elementary School (30 competing students): Theo Grieb, Illinois

The Blitz was a popular Olympiad event. The topic, revealed only at the start of the competition, was the History of Cheese. Participants later ate these samples of Comté.
The overall championship title was determined by the combined top scores in the Written Exam, the multiple choice-style Battery Exam, and the International History Bee World Championships for the three younger age divisions. For Varsity and Junior Varsity Division students, the Historiography Exam also was factored into the overall calculation.
One of the marquee events at the 2025 International History Olympiad was the International History Bee World Championships, in which all students competed. This was one of twenty buzzer-based quiz competitions, and it featured paragraph-length quiz questions on all aspects and eras of world history. The winners of the 2025 International History Bee World Championships for each division were:
Varsity: Robert Wang, New Jersey
Junior Varsity: Luke Ng, Singapore
Middle School: Miller Angevine, Georgia (US State)
Intermediate: Caden Deng, Florida
Elementary School: Keaton Finan, Washington

A Risk Tournament was one of nine events counted in the Historical Games Medals Table.
While École Jeannine Manuel, a French high school, served as the setting for most competitions, the finals of the French History Bee and the Historical Debating Tournament were held on the Champ de Mars at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, and the Historical Spelling Bee took place at various locations throughout Paris, including the courtyard of the Louvre and the Tuileries Gardens. Other highlights of the 2025 International History Olympiad included the debut of the Historical Games Program, with nine competitions; the inaugural Olympiad Music Program with live music at ceremonies and in the school courtyard; field trips to the Louvre, Versailles, Les Invalides, the Musée d’Orsay, and over ten other destinations; and Team California becoming the first-ever affiliation at an Olympiad to reach over 100 medals on the Official Medals Table, which it won by a very wide margin finishing with 40 golds and 129 overall medals. 175 out of 432 Competing Students won at least one medal. Robert Wang of New Jersey (14 golds) and Luke Ng of Singapore (12 golds) both won 20 medals to lead all Competing Students.
Prior to the Olympiad, 127 students, family members, and staff also took part in a three-day IAC Journeys tour of Normandy and Brittany, while a separate IAC Journeys week-long post-Olympiad tour saw 51 students, family members, and staff tour the South of France.
The 7th International History Olympiad will take place in 2027, most likely in London or Berlin. International Academic Competitions wishes to thank everyone who attended the 2025 International History Olympiad in Paris and everyone who helped to make it a great success.
