International Academic Competitions is delighted to announce that the 7th International History Olympiad will take place in Berlin, Germany from July 17-24, 2027! This will be the second time the Olympiad is held in Berlin, following the 2018 Olympiad, making Berlin the first two-time Olympiad host city. The Olympiad will feature over 50 separate history-themed competitions, as well as over 20 field trip destinations, the Family and Friends Program, the Press Corps, the Olympiad Music Program, ceremonies, and other cultural events. We expect 400-500 Competing Students to attend and hope that you and your family can join us! Qualification is outlined here; if you are not yet qualified, the quickest way to do so is through the Olympiad Qualifying Exam.
Please note the Olympiad will take place at Hotel MOA, a convention hotel in central Berlin, which IAC has secured in its entirety for the week in question. All families, (except those who have received a special dispensation as part of their financial aid package) and school/student groups will be required to book rooms at the Hotel MOA through an official booking link to be able to take part. Please do not book rooms at the Hotel MOA for the week of the Olympiad through any other method, including the hotel’s own site, before the booking link is available! Unaccompanied students in the Varsity and Junior Varsity Divisions will also stay at the Hotel MOA; IAC will assign their rooms to them after registration, and their parents do not need to book hotel rooms. Additional information on room rates and types will be available by the end of October 2026. The Hotel MOA is conveniently located at the Birkensstrasse stop on the U9 subway (i.e. U-Bahn) line; there are numerous restaurants and shops within a five minute walk, and there is a supermarket in the basement of the hotel. Breakfast is included in the hotel rate – no other meals are required.
Additionally, IAC is planning on organizing a pre-tour to Munich and Nuremberg for three days on July 13-16. Families taking part in the pre-tour will need to arrive in Munich on July 13; the tour will then arrive in Berlin on the evening of the 16th. July 17 will be the main arrival and check-in date for the Olympiad, though an optional full day trip to Potsdam and Wittenberg is also planned for that day. Families taking part in the Potsdam and Wittenberg day trip will need to arrive in Berlin on July 16 as well. Early check-in for the Olympiad on July 16 will be available for any family taking part in either the pre-tour or the day trip (families can certainly do both the pre-tour and the day trip). Then, after the Olympiad concludes on the evening of the 24th, we are planning a week-long post-tour departing Berlin around noon on July 31. The post-tour will travel first by train to Hamburg, and then continue via bus to Bremen, Amsterdam, The Hague, Bruges, and Brussels. Families can plan on departing Brussels at any time on Sunday, August 1. Further details on all tour destinations will be posted soon.
Registration will open for the Olympiad by November 23 once the planned program of events has been posted. The pre-tour, the day trip, and the post-tour will also all open for registrations at that time, as will applications for financial aid. Please note that a significant discount on the Olympiad, the pre-tour, the day tripl, and the post-tour will be available if payments are received prior to the end of the 2026 calendar year. Please check this website periodically as more information will be posted to it on a rolling basis in the months leading up to the Olympiad. Vielen Dank für Ihr Interesse an der Internationalen Geschichtsolympiade 2027, and we look forward to welcoming you to Berlin next summer!
